LDAP Training LPI certification level 3 (LPIC3) exam 301

This course is specific to the Linux system

This LPI 301 course covers all topics required for a succesful LPI 301 exam. The courses teaches the skills to configure an LDAP directory server and to maintain its operation in complex and demanding environments. Topics covered are the LDAP concepts, populating an LDAP directory, compiling and installing the OpenLDAP package, integrating OpenLDAP with various other services, securing the LDAP directory, and using the administrative commands.

The second topic of the LPI 301 exam concerns your ability to measure the capacity of the system, to resolve bottlenecks, and to plan future capacity needs. A separate module of this course covers the measuring and analysis of the system load, and solving the underlying problems as well as planning the future capacity requirements with help of modeling techniques. Extensive lab exercises will help to develop the skills to apply this knowledge in the everyday routine.

After the course you will be able to administer LDAP directory servers, and to trace and solve capacity problems in your Linux systems. Supported by additional study and practical experience you will be able to pass the LPI 301 exam, and thus obtain the "LPIC-3 Certified" qualification. Read on >>>

Detailed information about this course

LPIC - Worldwide acknowledged Linux certification

The growing number of application programs for Linux causes an increasing demand for Linux system administrators, preferably with a demonstrably advanced level of knowledge. The Linux Professional Institute LPI provides the LPIC3 certificate (Senior Level Linux Professional) with which holders of the LPIC-2 certificate can prove their avanced skills in professional Linux administration. This LPIC3 "core certificate" is obtained by passing the 301 exam at a VUE or Prometric centre.

AT Computing provides the LPI 301 course as a preparation for the Level 3 exams. Augmented with self tuition and practical skills the LPIC301 exam will come within reach.

Prerequisite knowledge

A reasonable experience as a Linux system administrator.

Technical content of the course

The course will cover:

All topics and objectives as stated in the official specifications of the 301 exam.

  • LDAP concepts and architecture. Designing an LDAP directory structure. Creating and adapting LDAP schemes.
  • OpenLDAP compilation, installation and configuration.
  • Designing scripts to access an LDAP directory.
  • Securing an LDAP directory. Authentication and authorisation. Applying Access Control Lists. Configuring multiple LDAP servers for increased availability. Performance analysis of an LDAP server. Securing the server with SSL/TLS.
  • Using an LDAP directory, query-commands. Commands to modify the directory content.
  • Integrating your LDAP directory with other services of the Linux system: integration with PAM and NSS. Migrating a Network Information Service (NIS) to LDAP. Integration with SSH, FTP, FreeRADIUS, CUPS, SAMBA, and E-mail services.
  • Performance analysis and capacity planning: Using standard tools like top, iostat, vmstat and sar for performance measuring. Analysis of the results and identifying bottlenecks. Solving system load problems. Predicting future system load using the PDQ Perl module.

Documentation

Course attendants will receive a student pack containing copies of the presentations, lab exercises, answers to the exercises, and background information.

The course material is in English, and the teaching language will be English unless the attendants prefer the Dutch language unanimously.

Certificate

It is wise to augment the theoretical base obtained in this course with additional self study and practical experience. The LPI 301 exam must be taken at a VUE- or Prometric centre of your own choice (a fee is charged), or at some event organized by LPI partners (registering is possible here). Candidates take the VUE/Prometric exam on a computer, event exams are in writing. Passing this 301 exam will make you an LPIC-3 certified professional, provided you hold the LPIC-2 certification already.
